SEEING-EYE DOG WALKS WITH OWNER AT GRADUATION - “Like any good working dog,the 80-pound black lab stopped to soak in the thunderous applause as he escorted Amanda Davis to receive her diploma.”

A Black Labrador named Ellis recently walked with his owner at her law school graduation ceremony. Ellis is a seeing-eye dog who constantly accompanied his owner during her studies. He wore a custom-made graduation gown at the ceremony. Here’s more from nydailynews.com:

“I couldn’t have done this without Ellis,” said Davis, a beaming New York Law School graduate who credits much of her success to her loyal Seeing-Eye dog…The law school made sure there was room for Ellis in the classroom, and that Amanda’s schedule allowed him proper breaks, said Sally Harding, NYLS senior director of Student Life.

More frustrating were her attempts to hail a cab or get into a restaurant. She hopes to raise awareness that service dogs are allowed in all private and public spaces.

“It’s shocking that people don’t know the law,” said Davis, who plans to take the bar exam next year and begin looking for a job, preferably in financial arbitration.

Meanwhile, when he’s off harness, Ellis is just a regular dog. At home, he loves to sprawl out on the couch and play with squeaky toys.

Ellis also deserves a degree for his hard work in getting his owner safely through law school. Ellis was part of an organization called The Seeing Eye, which specializes in service dogs. Avocados provide all of the essential amino acids, with 18 amino acids in all, plus 7 fatty acids, including Omega 3 and 6. Avocados contain more protein than cow’s milk. Avocado is an enzymatically-alive fruit, it ranks as the most easily digested rich source of fats and proteins in whole food form. Other than avocados, where can a person get their protein?

Out of the 22 amino aids found in the body, 8 must be derived from food. All 8 are abundantly available in raw plant food, especially greens. As suggested by David Wolfe, “green leafed veggies are the true body builders.”

Examples of animals who build enormous musculature on green leafy vegetation include: gorilla, giraffe, hippo, elephant, horse. People think they need flesh protein to build flesh protein. If that were true then cows would need to eat flesh to get protein. Usable protein is the key.

Cooking denatures protein molecular structure and creating free radicals, which destroy enzymes, amino acids & other cellular elements.

The Cataracts by Andrew McConnell

Here in The Cataracts, Irish photographer Andrew McConnell braves the rapids of the Congo River to document the amazing Wagenia fishermen going about their daily catch—a livelihood that goes back centuries. Andrew takes the viewer into the midst of this drama: he is literally in the churning water, and in some pictures captures the perspective of the fish being caught.

For some of the shots I used a waterproof housing so that I could get low in the water and get a different perspective. I didn’t use the housing when I was on the tolimos because it made shooting very difficult. And after a while I didn’t use it in the pirogues (wooden canoes) either because, even though we were navigating some heavy white water, I found that the fishermen were so skillful at steering through the rapids that I never felt worried about capsizing—in fact, I barely got wet. Much to my astonishment a fisherman would sometimes dive into a raging torrent and just as I’d be thinking, my God we’ll never see that guy again, he would pop up beside a pirogue 30 yards away.

Andrew has traveled extensively, and his work covers a range of subjects. His enigmatic portraits, called The Last Colony,” document Sahrawi refugees and won the World Press Photo award for Portraits in 2011. Surf’s Up in Gaza ran in Newsweek International and won the Society of Publication Designers award in the category for Feature: News/Reportage.

DOG FOLLOWS CYCLISTS ON AN EPIC 2,700 MILE JOURNEY - “He ran with the group for 24 days straight, covering roughly 96 miles a day and climbing 12 mountains without ever falling behind.”

A dog, nicknamed Xiaosa, encountered a group of bicyclists who fed him some food. He liked them so much that he continued to follow the group and ended up running with them for 2,700 miles across China. Rere’s more from wtop.com:

After one of the cyclists gave him food, the dog ran alongside the group for its 2,735-mile journey across the country, from Sichuan province to Tibet…Yong said there were about 300 cyclists on Highway 318. Most of them could not ride to the end and hitchhiked buses halfway. However, Xiaosa and another three cyclists made it the entire way.

This has to be one of the most epic canine adventures ever. Apparently Xiaosa ran 30-40 miles a day and was carried on one of the bikes when he got tired. However, the best news is that one of the cyclists will be adopting Xiaosa. Click here for the full story and to watch a short video.

Not sure why this sweet guy is being overlooked, but he is a gem of a guy! Do you think you can handle this much LOVE is your life!? He just adores his people and will greet you in the morning on his hind legs, ready for a hug… what more could you ask for!? Great with other dogs, big or small and very affectionate. Do you have room in your heart for this wonderful guy!? Scheduled to be neutered this weekend, but can go to his new home while he is waiting… He’s waiting for you!!!

Bio: Meet Sebastian! What a handsome guy he is!!! Sebastian was a backyard dog that was surrendered to the shelter by his owners. He is an Akita/Border Collie mix and has adjusted well to being an indoor/outdoor dog. He prefers to be out with everyone, but is good in his kennel when he needs to be. He is housebroken and overall just a big marshmallow. He loves everyone!!! He loves to play with all the other dogs and loves to love on his people. This guy has got some affection to give! He’s a little over a year old and will be neutered and microchipped before he goes to his new home. UTD on shots and looking for his playful and loving family! Let’s help him find them!

Poor precious turtle left cruelly ALIVE on display in California. It’s carapace had been SHORN OFF COMPLETELY displaying its innards. The poor baby lifted its head and that is when the video-maker realized it was still alive.

Californian officials did NOTHING to help this turtle because apparently, THEY ARE NOT AN ANIMAL!!!! It did not die until a customer bought a quarter of it, so the final hacking away at its mutilated body killed it. What a horrific, painful and downright callous death to endure.

Disgusting.

Yeah, and vegans are the extremists? Absolutely fucking horrific. I can only hope that those who feel it’s okay to subject another creature to this cruelty suffer an eternal pain 100 times worse.

If I ever see something like this in person, I’m going to shove as much of my hand into someones eye socket as I possibly can. I want a handful of that fucker’s brain so fucking badly I’m shaking. Fucking unspeakable.

Cruel “Hot Branding” Of Horses Banned In Germany

German Minister of Agriculture Isle Aigner finally came to the long awaited decision this week, declaring hot iron branding illegal. The ban will become an amendment to the country’s Animal Welfare Act once it is finalized by parliament this fall. Germany will join Denmark, Scotland and the Netherlands in outlawing the practice.
